Categories: Health Canada Recall Notices
My love affair with Chapters Indigo started in the late ’90s when they were simply known as Chapters. I’ve bought their books, gift cards, I am a member of their iRewards program, I’ve browsed through their magazines (and even bought one or two). Once I even pretended not to recognize Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) and her fabulous Gucci bag while she was hiding behind a bookshelf — so gorgeous (the Gucci) and so teeny (Sarah Michelle). Let’s just say, I thought we were friends.
So when I saw a Health Canada recall about an Alex Toys: Big Top Flippity-Flops product that was being sold on their website, I sent an email to their customer service and received a “Thank you for your email…” response.
In my initial correspondence, I advised that the product was recalled by Health Canada but that the product was still available for purchase on the website. I also asked specifically if they could:
1. Post the recall notice from Health Canada and remove the “In Stock” notice from product page,
2. I sent Customer Service the exact link to the Alex “Big Top Flippity-Flops” product page (which has now been removed),
3. I asked what their policy is for receiving manufacturer recalls, and
4. How they notify their customer base if a product has been recalled.
The information that I received back from Chapters, was exactly what I was hoping for. Their recall procedures would be as follows:
1. If the manufacturer issues a recall and if the batch or production run was received by them, then they would contact their customers via e-mail indicating they could return the item for a full refund.
2. They would explain why there has been a recall based on the manufacturers recall information.
3. They would also make the product unavailable to order and indicate on their site that the recall was issued for the item.
LOVE IT! All I want is for all manufactures and retailers to post the recall information so their customers can help to make informed decisions about the products and brands they are deciding to buy and more importantly, so they can actually see if they own the recalled product! Health Canada says that approximately 1540 units were sold in Canada – where are those products?
UPDATE: What has actually happened is Chapters Indigo deleted the product page and have not posted the recall notification from Health Canada.
